Directional Movement Index - DMI: The directional movement index (DMI) is an indicator developed by J. Welles Wilder for identifying when a definable trend is present in an instrument. That is The Directional Movement Index (DMI) is a momentum indicator that was developed by J. Welles Wilder. The DMI is part of a series of technical indicators developed by Wilder, and some trading platforms split up the indicators, providing the Directional Movement as one indicator and the Average Direction Index (ADX) as another. Typically, these indicators are used together to form the DMI. The Directional Movement Index (DMI) assists in determining if a security is trending and attempts to measure the strength of the trend. The DMI disregards the direction of the security. It only attempts to determine if there is a trend and that trends strength. The indicator is made up of four indicator lines:
